Hereditary basis and diagnostics

Many health disorders or development specifics are subject to hereditary influences. Especially rare syndromes very often have genetic reasons. This, for example. applies to neurological disorders like Epilepsy, Morbus Parkinson, Dementia or Autism. Also mental disorders and depression are not to be neglected. Hereditary factors must be taken into account in many other diseases, e.g. tumor or heart diseases, immune deficiency, ENT-diseases ( disorders of hearing or seeing) as well as metabolic diseases (e. g. diabetes).

You are allowed to receive a genetic counseling. It is a service provided by the statutory health insurance and private insurance that you can take advantage of without any additional payment.

What a genetic counseling includes:

  • personal and family history while creating a family tree of 3 generations
  • if necessary, physical examination
  • explanation of genetic examinations and medical reports
  • especially explanation of the underlying inheritance an the risk for disease for the affected patient and relatives
  • discussion of the test results with regard to further clinical examination or therapies with you and your doctors
  • possible effects to your family planning
  • life planning and insurance features
  • further specialist or psychological support Betreuung:
    • therapeutic suggestions and discussion about further medical check-ups in agreement with the treating doctors
    • preparation of a detailed report for the patient and the treating doctors
